How much it really costs to go to Burning Man

How much does Burning Man Cost? How much money do I need to bring? Once a year, tens of thousands of people gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. In this crucible of creativity, all are welcome. Built on a philosophy of self-reliance and decommodification, the nine-day event is a experiment of sustainability. The question on many first-time Burners lips is simple: how much does it really cost to go Fortunately, the guys over at Time Magazine’s Money have worked that out. Dutch want to legalise xtc and regulate production

Member of parliament Kathalijne Buitenweg: "The government doesn't have to produce the xtc pills themselves, but must take control." Xtc is the most used drug after alcohol and cannabis in Dutch nightlife. "I find it inevitable that the Netherlands will also regulate the consumption of ecstasy in addition to the use of cannabis. Production must be controlled via a licensing system and only pills that meet quality requirements must be available. I say it because of public health, but also because we have to do something about the frighteningly growing power of criminals. " Multiple Dutch mayors also argue for lifting...

These people just partied 16 hours in Berghain

If you would even dare to try to take party photos at Berghain you would probably be banned to hell, or worse. I’ve seen furious bar tenders leap over the counter to kick people out who took photos of each other with their smart phones. But luckily they can’t prohibit any kind of photography outside of their sacred premises, so taking pictures of the people in front of the club is a good alternative. Recently a photo set of the people in the queue of Berghain made the rounds on the internet. And today we have a brand new one for you by...

IM Power Station Cooling Tower — Charleroi, Belgium A grand relic to the age of coal stands near the Belgian village of Monceau-sur-Sambre, in the form of the decommissioned IM Power Plant, which was one of the largest coal burning power plants in all of Belgium. Built in 1921, the power plant became the main source of energy for the Charleroi region, and remained in service until 2007 following protests by Greenpeace concerning the plant’s massive CO2 emissions. Scientists are studying a sleepless fish to help human stay up all night

According to a new study published on eLife, a team of neuroscientists at Florida Atlantic University have found “the first evidence of genetic and neuronal changes that contribute to the evolution of sleep loss”. This new scientific discovery comes thanks to a little fish known as the Mexican tetra. This species of fish exists in two different populations: the surface dwelling genus and its blind, cave-dwelling counterpart. With regular access to sunlight, the surface population requires around eight-hours of sleep (similar to that of humans) while the latter group requires a total of two-hours every 24 hours. Focusing on a neuropeptide called hypocretin or HCRT, researchers found that the cave-dwelling species of fish contain more HCRT proteins than the species’ close-relatives who favor the sun. By exposing both populations to drugs that block HCRT receptors, it was discovered that the evolution of sleep can be contributed to a species’ neural and...

Yellow and blue pills, stamped with the IKEA logo, have previously been described as “particularly strong” by the States of Jersey Police, according to the BBC. The warning has been issued after some people have had to receive medical treatment after taking the pills. The inside of Berghain (and its darkrooms). Still sure you want to get in?

A nightclub that has become an institution of the Berlin techno scene, also taking on mythical proportions in the global techno and house scenes. The club is a reincarnation of an earlier Berlin nightclub, Ostgut (1998-2003), which was located in the empty Ostgüterbahnhof railway shipping warehouse. Check out the floorplan below. Through the years, the club has been the source of many rumors and lore. Unconfirmed sources claim that the Berghain urinals are directly connected to the showerheads at Lab.oratory below. Whether this is true or not, we do not know, but for most patrons the upper floors seem more appealing. In 2005, Lab.oratory premiered in the space underneath Berghain. The fetish club, founded at Ostgut, was now brought back to life — this time in a larger space with more dark rooms, more toys, and more secrets. Here, nudity and leather reigns along with lustful imagination. Today, founders Michael Teufele and Norbert Thormann are...

Antwerp gets a new 5000 square meter venue named Meatpack this weekend

Antwerp - A new venue named Meatpack is opening in Antwerp, Belgium this weekend. According to Resident Advisor, the 5000 square meter former factory will house a nightclub, which will be sealed within one of the halls to ensure there are no issues with sound bleed. The venue, named after the former meatpacking district nearby, will open its doors on Saturday, December 9th. “Even though this is a warehouse, we wanted to avoid making it look like one,” Meatpack’s co-operator Nelson Donck told Red Bull Elektropedia. “ This club needs to look sexy and attractive, so instead of working with the usual black, we’ll transform everything with and pink carpets and light colours.” External clubs and promoters; Hush Hush, Kelly Palmer, Daft Funk, Club 808 and Vice City are all onboard.

A knock-off Fabric has been discovered in China

China is infamous for its knock-off wares, from clothing to electronics. But this time someone has taken this to a new level by opening a club called Fabric with an identical logo to the revered London institution. The nightspot is located in the Beibin Lu area of downtown Chongqing. It was spotted by Dutch DJ and promoter Bram van Ravenhorst, aka Blind ‘92, who runs the Echo Bay club in Chongqing and snapped two images. The similarities don’t run much deeper than the name and logo. The music policy focuses on EDM and commercial house, and China’s “sexy girls dancing” bedeck the venue, Mixmag Asia reports. TimeOut Shanghai dismissively notes: “If you're going to use the name of one of the world's most successful clubbing destinations, Fabric, then you better do a good job. Instead, this is yet another Chinese-style club with everything that comes with that.”
